Dodging Pollution: An Underdog Story
Earthjustice - Non-Profit - www.earthjustice.org
Some of the worst air polluters have dodged controls for decades, pumping dirty air that makes playing outside a dangerous game for kids across the U.S. Though 2011 brings unprecedented opportunities to clean up these polluters, only public pressure can counteract the polluter lobby's influence. A humorous video can help: in a dodgeball game between kids and pollution, large men dressed as mercury, soot, and other pollutants hurl dodgeballs labeled with diseases (e.g. asthma ) while kids counter with balls marked "health" and "clean air". The message: join the kids' team to ensure dirty industries don't dodge clean air rules again.

To protect the air we breathe, polluters must be publicly exposed and the general public must be made aware of the dangers of pollutions and that they can help bring polluters into compliance.

If we can't breathe, or breathe clean air, we sicken and die!

We have to keep putting pressure on polluters. Don't let up. Keep lobbying all levels of government.

Big polluters have not and will not clean up their acts without government regulation which has significant "teeth."

I support clean energy. When I was growing up in Georgia we heated with coal and every spring we had to scrub the ceiling (the heat register was in the ceiling) from all the black soot. It makes me realize how much I was breathing this same soot into my lungs and body.

Coal and oil are major air polluters, but there are point source polluters that are never even considered that may be nearly as bad. Think of all the clothes dryers in this country, and how many of them are running at any given time, and consider that the majority of them are spewing out toxic perfume chemicals from detergents, fabric softeners, and dryer sheets directly into the air. Nearly every neighborhood today is continually contaminated with these chemicals, and everyone living in these places is exposed constantly to them. Fragrance chemicals are made up of substances that can cause asthma and other respiratory ailments, endocrine disruptors, pesticides, and carcinogens. We are needlessly exposing ourselves and our children, not to mentioned the other creatures of the earth, to these persistent and dangerous chemicals, simply because we have been manipulated by the big corporations into believing that things are not clean unless they smell of some scent or other. This is one of the "elephants in the room", and is an issue that needs to be addressed asap. Let's strive for truly clean air by saying no to Big Chemical's lies and demanding safe, fragrance-free products!

I recall winters in the city when going outdoors without hat resulted in hair full of soot from coal being used for heat, so we have made some progress. we gotta do more!

Every breath we take in this lifetime is precious...it allows us an opportunity to evolve and through our thoughts, words and actions help others to understand their higher purpose.
We, as human beings, have a duty to all other living beings on this planet to provide the best quality of air, water and food for them and we can only do this if we ourselves have healthy minds and bodies. It is an honor to live upon this earth and we should all be doing all that is possible to protect this fragile environment.
"Money comes and goes, but Morality comes and grows." Let the leaders of these companies put their moral obligation to this earth ahead of their greed for money.
