In addition, I've published an academic article on fair trade in coffee that included interviews with key officials at Equal Exchange.
They represent the highest standards of social responsibility in both their work around the globe with coffee-producing communities organized as democratic enterprises channeling income back into all segments of the community, and socially responsible enterprise here in the U.S. As a non-profit cooperative owned by their workers, they are able to harness the enthusiasm and idealism of their employees in building economic and social sustainability across the North/South divide.
They deserve any recognition available for their work.
