Outsourcing the Problem: Consumption, Climate and China
Public Interest Research Centre - Non-Profit - www.pirc.info
Help us reveal an untold scandal: how the West exports carbon emissions to countries like China - expecting them to pay for the impact of our consumption. We need an engaging animation to explain the problem - for which we'll provide research, a voiceover from George Monbiot, and promotion from ChinaDialogue. The animation will inform the public, inspire campaigners and give us a tool to lobby government to take responsibility.

I am currently in BC Canada. Having read today (wikipedia admittedly) that Canada has a per capita primary energy use of 427 mil/btu versus chinas 56 mil/btu I wonder how much worse that disparity would become if these ideas were included in these calculations.
In spite of the massive increase in chinas energy use in the last 20 years, how much better would their true energy consumption be if western nations manufacturing demands were correctly attributed? -

get the message out there.

An excellent idea.

a much needed piece of research!

This seems to be a very laudable project. Few people know that in effect China emits over 4 tonnes CO2 p.a. for every person in western Europe because of the goods they manufacture for our 'consumption'.

PIRC are the nuts, and Monbiot needs no introduction. We really need to get more votes for this.

PIRC's work is outstanding and I have every confidence their work on outsourcing will be worthwhile.

An important issues - get more attention will demonstrate the truth of the west's carbon consumption

The cognitive dissonance displayed by governments and corporations on this issue needs to be exposed.

Great organisation. Deserves to win.

This is a vital issue, and one the Government doesn't seem to want to talk about. Only today a newspaper in my area carried a story about sorted recycled material being sent to China to return as manufactured products. This sort of thing has to stop, or at the very least the carbon emissions charged to the UK.
