The Cruelty Behind the Cuteness

Free Range can help reduce suffering and create meaningful social change for animals by creating a movie to educate youth (target age range 13-18) about the inherent cruelty in mass dog breeding operations commonly known as puppy mills. Millions of puppies are born in shockingly poor conditions each year, many with behavior and/or health problems. Many people don't realize they're supporting this cruelty when they purchase a puppy in a pet store, over the Internet, or through a classified ad. By raising awareness, we can help stop a cycle of cruelty that contributes to pet overpopulation and the suffering of countless dogs.

Puppy mills are so terrible. Caesar Milan had a show on puppy mills. Dogs are crammed into cages and terribly neglected-especially the breeding parents. Never allowed outside a tiny cage their entire lives. What type of person could do this to a living creature?

I support HSUS and their tireless efforts to stop animal abuse and raise awareness. Please always adopt your pets!! It will fill a hole in your heart that you didn't even know was there.

I agreee with anonymous! when you adopt from a shelter or per say an animal rescue then you are telling these puppy mills that you dont want their kind of business! They are cruel to the animlas a lot of times and often you get a sick animal who hasnt had a chance to live as a puppy, or kitten or whatever type of animal, and they dont know how to act. A lot of times the animals are abused mistreated and neglected and it may show in their behavior once you get them home. In the end run, it costs you more money by having bought them.

Adopt from a shelter or another homeless pet center. Don't buy from puppy mills.

Puppy mills are a horrible piece of work. Not only do the dogs raised in them generally suffer in poor conditions, but by breeding and selling, they take away possible loving homes from dogs in waiting in shelters. And they are perpetuating overpopulation! If you want a pet, ALWAYS adopt!

I can hardly stand to see these mills if people knew that their puppies came from a cage where they stuffed a hundred of them they might think twice.

This is an issue that deserves much more attention. The unimaginable cruelty needs to stop. And it goes for the purposeful breeding of any animal for a pet. There are millions of cats and dogs euthanized each year. In my opinion, breeding facilities should be outlawed altogether, or at the very least, have tight restrictions on how many animals can be produced and very, very tough rules and inspections and regulations imposed on the facilities.
