Help us reveal an untold scandal: how the West exports carbon emissions to countries like China - expecting them to pay for the impact of our consumption. We need an engaging animation to explain the problem - for which we'll provide research, a voiceover from George Monbiot, and promotion from ChinaDialogue. The animation will inform the public, inspire campaigners and give us a tool to lobby government to take responsibility.

I've recently researched the export of e-waste to China and looked at the impacts of our sending back the stuff that was manufactured there in the first place. We've exported not only the carbon emissions of manufacture but also the toxic emissions from "recycling" our used goods. I hope your animation can show the full life cycle impacts of our outsourcing. Best of luck!

This really is an important problem and it needs proper investigation and analysis. To continue to do what economists politely call "externalising costs" simply isn't an option; it amounts to procrastination, at best, and time is not on our side. George Monbiot's input is very welcome and a guarantee of strong impact. Go for it.

I was working at DECC when an MP brought a private members bill arguing to expand the UK's carbon emissions reporting requirements to include consumption of goods and services from abroad. Good to get this aired again.

Exported carbon is indeed an issue that allows politicians and big business to overstate the actual progress they are making. Making such a film will need careful phrasing however, and I hope we will explore in it the benefits of consuming lower or carbon free activities, as well as the knock-on disbenefits of our high carbon consumption...please '10:10 no pressure' or moral highground stuff - it would make the film un-useable for mainstream society.

CO2 knows no national boundaries and neither does the power of the money we spend. . . it's essential we come to understand the consequences and dependencies of our way of life and that the earth is one living system.
