Hi I am Mauro, a 33 year old IT Web Developer and the creator of this idea. To be realised with the support of the Internet community networks, my organisation, Free Range Studios, and together with our agencies, developers and free lancers.
My idea is to develop a computer / mobile application that gives you a list of all the recipes you can make using ingredients or products you already have at home.
Then, if not satisfied with the suggested recipes, you can press a "buy one item" button, and the app will show you all the recipes that you can make with your own things and the ingredient(s) that you need to buy. Press the button again, and you will have a list of recipes that have "two" things to buy … and so on.
For example, at home you have these items listed in this format: item - owner company – rating (read further for an explanation of rating).
And they are:
///
one banana - Fresh Markets Food - rated **;
some honey - Farmers next door production - rated ****(in green);
one litre of organic milk - REV - rated ***;
some multi grain bread - Delivery Farmers - rated ***;
spread butter – Midwest GM Company - rated minus*****(in red);
and canned anchovies - Uncle Toby - rated **;
///
and let's say you want to consume them. Did you know that for some interesting reason honey never expires? But the banana does, or it gets eaten without being updated onto your Eco-nomy Kitchen. So, when you are looking for some recipes in the database, the recipes suggested, in this case, will be: (follows display)
Welcome Eco-nomy Kitchen User, Today You Can Make:
///
No. 1 - The banana smoothee
No. 2 - Bread and anchovies
///
--------------------------------------
And When You Get 350g of “Tofu”
--------------------------------------
You Could Make :
///
No. 3 – Tofu Mare e Monti
///
5 anchovies;
350g of “Tofu”;
1/4 cup of Milk;
1 tablespoon of butter;
///
But let’s say you choose the No. 1 - The banana smoothee, it will display the ingredients that you have
///
1 cup of "organic milk - REV - rated*** - “run out button”;
1 banana - Fresh Markets Food - rated** - “run out button”;
1 tablespoon of honey - Farmers next door production - rated**** - “run out button”;
You will then have to “check if you got all the stuff". But if you had "run out" of milk, for example, then you can simply press the "run out" button that will be visible anywhere Milk is mentioned so the database will update and reload your list of recipes you Can Make Today, without the removed item.An implementation of this idea is the use of the mobile phone's "camera photo bar code recognition". You can take the Eco-nomy Kitchen app directly at the Supermarket and scan the products from the shelves or you can scan the products already available in your kitchen and let the app display a "live" list of recipes that include the products/ingredients that you just made a picture of. Also, the app will give you a "sustainability rating" of the companies that produce those products, based on the "Guide to Ethical Supermarket Shopping " database.
Other implementations are:
Upload of your own recipe, any user recipe sent will be scrutinised by the on line moderator;
A localisation of the farmers in your area that will make you see their advertising or other local ethical shops within a map;
the "camera vegetable photo recognition", if your vegetable is sort of red and is rounded the picture will recognise it as a tomato, but if doesn't recognise, or it is a reddish organic orange, for example, it could optionally show you a list of items the on line virtual recognition system thinks it could be, select "orange" and your eco-nomy item will be added in a glimpse!The user data will work in a similar way to Facebook, it will remember what recipes you like most and suggest sustainable advertising semantically linked to your tastes and habits.
If the Free Range Youtopia gives me $15.000 USD for promote my project, it really could achieve great popularity on all the popular social networking websites/spaces, because the advertisement channel will only display sustainable/fair trade products and all the things that we love! Give me a chance to make this amazingly simple tool. It will help you maximise your budget, consume what you have already got, and shop in an ethical way!
If you are excited about this, vote for it here: http://bit.ly/eco-nomy , it belongs to the “Sustainable Living” category, but you can vote also for other categories if you want.
And you can also comment the idea on line, so that I know who to thank!
Best regards,
Mauro
