It's Where We Live

SELVA International - Non-Profit - www.selvainternational.org

SELVA International has formed a diverse collaboration to create a unique project that communicates ecological facts through online media. The resource will be geared toward educators and the public. We have designed a game-like experience that leads users through a series of interactive stories teaching a basic fact: the environment is where WE live. This theme is explored through quest-like modules centered on core environmental issues. By forging their own path through realistic scenarios, users will learn/engage with the issues on a personal level. They will learn specific actions for positive change and how to share this knowledge with others.

Thanks for the support! This is exactly what we plan to do- educate students and the general public about environmental issues, online, through an interactive experience that truly engages the individual. There's a lot of information out there, but it doesn't interest or draw in the average person. We are designing a game-like, multi-media experience that creates an emotional response that is relevant to the user. Our goal is to teach the fact that the environment is not some distant place, but instead, it is "where we live." By destroying the environment, we are destroying the very resources we need to live.

I love this project. It focuses on one of the most important ideas to engage people to act... knowing that the environment is what supports life as we know it. For us! Not just the cute and cuddly animals.

Don't believe all the sci-fi ideas about colonization of other planets, or the monetary bottom line twisting of science to "prove" that humans don't have a real effect upon the environment. We live here and this planet is not just our home, it is our life support system. it provides us with our food, with our water, our air and the emotional sense of wonder that our natural wonders provide that make life worth living.

The destruction of our environment to suck up resources also sucks up our emotional reason for living; the wonder we experience at the world around us that human hands could not possibly replicate.
