FOR THE PRICE OF...

DBA Moxie Strategies - Hybrid - www.moxiestrategies.com

They call it retail therapy, but does it really help? What if nonprofits could offer people a legitimate way to fill the void and experience the rush of clicking “buy?” With Free Range’s help, I want to create an ad application that calculates the amount of social good an online shopper could buy “for the price of” whatever luxury goods they browse. Nonprofits can raise money while consumers learn that becoming an agent of REAL change is not a Herculean task but a simple yet profound shift in priorities. Think of it like a slot machine where everybody wins.

I think this is a great idea and share strongly Crystal and Neil (and the others too!) viewpoints. Innovative idea and I look forward to see how it all comes out.. Go, Rachel, go!

This would definitely make me think twice before buying something I don't really need and remind me there are better ways to spend my money. Fantastic idea!

Really Joce? This struck me as the opposite . .. kinda more like an empowerment button!! This app would enable people to 1) get some perspective, which will probably make them feel less depressed about their own lives and 2) still get the rush of an impulse buy-- except that what they are buying is twice as satisfying-- they're buying REAL peace of mind, which is what they seek with retail therapy but never get. Or at least that's how I read it.

Hurray. I think this hits peoples' "guilt" buttons in a way that's justifiable because the ultimate goal is to benefit the common good. Clever idea and I hope if you're reading this you vote for it! Good luck, Rach.

This is an important concept because we all need to learn how your our energy and personal resources in constructive ways. Whether it's buying a chocolate bar or a leather coat we don't really need, our satisfaction and pleasure needs could be served just as well by literally being responsible for an outreach worker providing a 1 hour class on civil disobedience or paying for water at a village meeting.
